Release Date: October 15th, 2007

At long last it is here- Shulman's much awaited fourth album- "Endless Rhythms of the Beatless Heart"! After establishing themselves as a leading group in the downtempo electronica world and defying genre definitions, the Shulman duo take the next step and deliver an album, which we at Aleph Zero feel we can honestly say is going to revolutionize the electronic music world.

"Endless Rhythms of the Beatless Heart" comes after 4 years of hard work and offers a combination of electronic and acoustic music that creates something never before heard. Using their unrivaled mastery of sonic manipulation and hosting an impressive cast of highly skilled musicians, playing a vast array of musical instruments from east and west, Shulman manage to construct a musical journey the likes of you've never encountered before.

With this album Shulman once again succeed in building a musical bridge between East and West, Classic and Contemporary, Past and Future. Blending revolutionary hi-tech sounds, classical Indian, Arab & Greek music, Contemporary Jazz and much more, they weave a complex and detailed musical pattern that rests upon the world around us and adds to it an infinite depth and a magical halo.
Here's the link with a lot of samples:

It's produced by Jim Wilson, and has vocals by Tina Malia, Sita Jameison, Nubia Teixeira, Jai Uttal and more.

I took this from the inside CD cover:

"In this latest incarnation of the Tulku series we are graced with new voices and music from South Africa, Bangladesh, Morocco, Brazil and Europe. Our endevour is based on a shared vision of bringing together cultures and musical traditions from around the world into a new form."

Dub War is New York's seminal dubstep night, and the first event of its kind in North America. Started in June 2005 to push the sounds of UK dubstep and other forms of underground dub music, it has introduced top name UK DJ's to US audiences, including Kode 9, Loefah, Mala of Digital Mystikz, and Skream.

Top US dubsteppers Joe Nice (one of URB's Next 100 for 2007), Dave Q, and MC Juakali are the Dub War residents,
About Kush Arora

One of the closest bredren in the extended Sub Swara family, Kush Arora makes his much anticipated NYC debut at Sub Swara 018. His new album, From Brooklyn to SF, is set to blow minds across the globe. It is a journey through Dread Bass, dub/dubstep, hip hop and desi inflected digi dancehall , featuring several of the most adventurous vocalists and musicians in North America. From the deep meditative dub of Seed Halfi Grow to the full on dancefloor bass weight of Spread the Word, the album redefines the musical landscape. Kush has shared the bill with Dr. Isreal, Sf's Dhamaal Soundsystem, opened for Theivery Corp, and regularly plays the 10 year long running Dub Mission in San Francisco. Currently he holds a monthly residency at Surya Dub located at SF's Club 6 with contemporaries forging the Dread Bass movement internationally and will be performing his signature dubwise live PA set at Sub Swara alongside SS's own MC Juakali.
Just thought I'd post a note here about a track from Soulphonic Soundsystem's forthcoming debut full-length being available at Properlychilled.com. Their album comes out digitally tomorrow (Mar. 8) but you can grab (as in f.r.e.e.) a full-length mp3 now of the song "Mr. Sparkle" off the downloads page at http://www.properlychilled.com/music/downloads/

This is recommended for those with a taste for jazzy, downtempo Latin sounds...

About 'em:
Soulphonic Soundsystem is a collaboration between multi-instrumentalist Chauncey Canfield and Transistor Lounge resident DJ Santo that combines broken beats with live instrumentation including horns, rhodes piano and a really sick dose of Latin flavor. On "Mr. Sparkle", a track off their forthcoming album "Volume 1", Soulphonic Soundsystem bring just that...some broken beats and jazzy vibes mixed up in a bucket of Latin flavored funk.

...and in case you haven't dropped by the site yet, there are a bunch of other mp3's as well, along with DJ mixes and the Properly Chilled podcast called Propercast.

Enjoy!
Filastine, in his second performance at a Stateless event, will be dropping his politically charged sounds siphoned through a laptop and stitched together with hip-hop backbone and live percussion. Postworld sonic grit aimed straight at the World Bank’s head!

…And just in case you thought it ended there, Roots and Wires will be playing their trademark blend of original productions and outernational beats from dubstep to UK steppers. Of course, Special Agent K and Andy G will be running it all through their wide array of sound banks, effects units, and secret sonic weapons inna dubwise fashion! Roots and Wires’ highly individual take on visuals will also be omnipresent throughout the night…So open your eyes and ears for the sounds and sights of the Roots and Wires!

Rounding off the bill will be the Worker with his always tight and tip-top minimal house, ragga breaks, and international hip-hop vibes.

As always reach early and stay late for this musical dispensation meant to rock the nations!
Karsh Kale(Six Degrees/Kollektiv)
Described by Billboard Magazine as a “visionary composer and producer”, Karsh Kale (pronounced “Kursh Kah-lay”) is one of global electronic music’s brightest stars. While his peers view Kale as a force of nature on both tabla and drums, Kale is an equally innovative song writer, producer, composer and DJ. Whether playing live or as a DJ . Kale has brought his infectious global sound to almost every major city on four continents. Kale is equally renown by both fans and critics as the pioneer of a sound that captures a panorama of influences - past and future, analog and digital - bringing classical Indian music into the Western mainstream rock and electronic vernacular. In a span of less than seven years, Kale released four critically acclaimed solo albums on Six Degrees Records, became a founding member of the super groups Tabla Beat Science and Realize Live, recorded and remixed countless artists, and has collaborated with the likes of Zakir Hussain, Paul Oakenfold, Sting, Anoushka Shankar, Salim-Sulaiman, Bill Laswell, MIDIval Punditz, Norah Jones, Sultan Khan, Paula Cole, Susheela Raman and Herbie Hancock. Karsh has also created Kollektiv, a national crew of DJs' producers, musicians and artists showcasing cutting edge underground music through Kollektiv events across the country.

Sub Swara (Sunder, Dhruva and Haj)
The Sub Swara crew has making serious waves in the world of cutting edge sound since its inception as a performing crew and club residency in 2005. Both as individual recording and performing artists and as a tandem, the Sub Swara crew is everywhere right now.Defying genre and concocting a bass charged blend of midtempo breaks, ragga dancehall, glitch, dub step, next level breakbeat and the uncategorizable, Dhruva, Sunder, Haj have created a profound imprint and redefined dance music with their signature blend of mixing, turntablism and live dubbed out tabla. With a slew of crushing new material, a much anticipated debut album scheduled for late summer 2007 release, and blazing gigs from coasts to coast and across the world, SS has been pushing big speaker bizness to new levels.

The Sub Swara live set represents the crew in fullest effect. With the recent addition of heavyweight mc Juakali to the live Set Sub Swara has added a crucial ragga component to their international bass and breaks filled sound and has continued to ignite and unite crews from all sonic lineages. The SS sounds run deep and traverses all boundaries.

Pedro (Reality Engine/ Interchill/ CoSM)
Originally from Brazil, Pedro plays and produces free style tribal grooves, with dub beats into midtempo trance, breaks and house, he fuses influences from many tribal cultures and genres to build an uplifting experience

Taruna: World Fusion 3

Shaman Electro is proud to present the much anticipated “Taruna: World Fusion 3”, the final installation in the World Fusion Trilogy, available now at psyshop: http://www.psyshop.com/shop/CDs/shn/shn1cd001.html

If you are already a fan of Taruna, aka Jürgen Eppinger, you have probably been waiting patiently for the newest album of psychedelic-ambient-electronica, rich with ethnic atmospheres from all over the globe – and if so, you will not be disappointed. If you are new to the global sounds of Taruna, you are in for an amazing voyage to new destinations…

Begin your journey with a glorious Sunrise in Varanasi - complete with original recordings on the streets of Varnasi, tabla, sarod and sarenghi samples, along with the sweet sounds of bells, xylophones, female vocals and a mixture of psychedelic synths and jazzy influences….Then allow yourself to wind through The Dogon Mystery, find an Invisible Word, glide through Shamballa and Listen to the Shamans of the Amazon rainforest. Each song carries you deep into the heart of a new place within yourself, wraps you in the sights, sounds and smells of faraway lands, and calls you to awaken to the beauty of all of humanity.

World Fusion 3 showcases rich, textured instruments from all over the globe: sitars, xylophones, flutes, tablas, bongos, shakers, Tibetan singing bowls, Chinese Zeng harp, Javanese gongs, Balinese Rejong Gamelan (the list goes on an on and on) mixed with thick bass lines, beautiful ethnic melodies and psychedelic synths to create globally rich atmospheres of feeling, depth and dance….all while delivering only the most positive of messages:

This incredible power inside the brain is ready to be activated…
Respect Nature, Respect Life…
There’s an invisible world around you…
There is going to have to be a radical transformation…transformation…transformation
The human future will be designed on how conscious we are able to make ourselves…

Travel through the streets of India, climb the Himalayas of Tibet, sing with the choirs of Bali, visit African villages in prayer, chant with long forgotten tribes, soar with the eagles and walk with the jaguars (and meet Timothy Leary and Terrence McKenna along the way!)…World Fusion 3 will guide your mind into a global perspective of enlightening authenticity…through a balance of male and female, yin and yang…to the possibilities of self and world… Awaken to the world around you…

World Fusion 3: an aural global guide…

hello friends,

thanks to all that came out for filastine's performance last month - it was a truly inspiring set for a comfortably packed house. we will have some photos up soon on the roots and wires website...

this saturday, september 30th, we return with the ninth round of stateless, again at SF's amnesia. for our live act, we are excited to bring you the wailing junktet, performing brazillian rhythms on found junk objects... they were killer at the recent novo sounds event (at the supper club)...

our guest dj is vanka, who hosts the misturada event at club six. here's a blurb that xlr8r's tomas palermo wrote about him:

"DJ Vanka has tapped into a vibe that clubs like Bar Rhumba in London have been promoting for years: organic and electronic Afro-Latin dance music. Vanka's hardly late to the game, though; he DJed for 10 years with Stellar Trax soundsystem, playing everything from reggae to drum 'n' bass. Now the Belgian native focuses his energies on the Worldwide crew (which includes DJs Wisdom and Ruben) and makes sure the Make-Out Room is packed with dancers every Saturday for Misturada (Portuguese for "mixed"). As Vanka works his way through a mix of salsa, samba, reggaeton, cumbia, Latin house, and Brazilian batucada breaks, the place becomes a sweatbox of swirling bodies"

wicked!

resident dj, the worker (six degrees, stateless), will drop his usual dancefloor magic, with everything from baile funk to ragga breaks.

the roots and wires hi-fi will close out the night, in full soundsystem style - with both original productions and the thickest selections, from dubstep and ragga-jungle, old school bollywood and asian massive, to uk steppers and roots reggae... their performance will be dubbed live with analogue delays, siren and sound units, melodica and more...

finally, the stateless crew will tag-team and provide visual mixing to complete the multimedia mandala...

make sure to come out for a diverse night of outernational and rootsical sounds, live and electronic, roots and wires...

the night starts at 9PM and goes until 2AM. the cover is only $5. the location is amnesia, 853 valencia - between 19th and 20th...

Please join us this Friday, August 25th, at Amnesia, for the next round of Stateless! Grey Filastine will be headlining, performing music from his new album - featuring a wicked mix of field recordings, sound collage, hip hop, arabic and indian beats. Here's the Boomkat review of his new album "Burn It," released on DJ Rupture's Soot Records:

"Thankfully this hugely accomplished debut album from Filastine on DJ Rupture’s Soot label is one that will stay on your playlist without fear of deletion. Taking influence from the four corners of the world; blending Brazillian funk with Jamaican riddims, Indian vocal honey with French rapping… this is a veritable world cruise (albeit without the pub-singer crooning). Filastine manages to distill his worldly influences without coming across trite or contrived. Never while listening to ‘Burn It’ did I stop and get cynical, it’s just not that kind of record. An excellent achievement and a huge recommendation – don’t burn it, BUY IT."

and another review from Seattle's Stranger:

"reminiscent of the murky drama of Ninja Tuners like Amon Tobin and DJ Food - throughout the album the lines between live performed contributions and meticulously contextualized samples is slurred and burnt... it feels like a thrillingly tense interaction between these ideological factors and the gold-toothed, whip-riding luxury of hiphop culture"

Grey will be joined by a guest vocalist, will be playing live polyrhythms, and will dub out his set via his performance art aesthetic (Grey is the conceptual mind behind Seattle's infamous Infernal Noise Brigade). Don't be surprised when you see his gear loaded on a shopping cart, a critique on consumerism and hypercapitalism...

In addition to Filastine, we have a special guest opening the night:

DJ Cyan will drop soulful sounds, liquid funk, drum and bass and dubstep...

The Worker, co-founder of Stateless alongside the Special Agent K, will follow DJ Cyan and drop ragga breaks, deep international techno, adding slivers of dub, brazilian, drum and bass, and breaks...

Filastine will play next...

The Roots and Wires Hi-Fi (Special Agent K, Andy G) will be closing the night with some original productions: expect some roots/dub, dubstep, and drum and bass meets virtuosic classical indian music (including All-India Radio artist, Ghanshyam Sisodia (sarangi), top disciple of Ustaad Amjad Ali Khan, Preetam Ghosal (sarod), and classical vocal virtuoso, Ujwaal Nagar). These sonic ninjas will also select the thickest in UK steppers, ragga jungle, asian massive, and roots/dub, all while dubbing the mix live with delays, reverb, siren unit, melodica, and video imagery! As a special treat, we will also be featuring tracks from Talvin Singh's upcoming album. This is so fresh that we can't give you any more details - I can say that you won't find this dubplate material anywhere else until next year. It is simply beautiful music, so please come and take any early sneak peek!

The Special Agent K will be doing live video mixing throughout the night, creating a rootsical container for your sonic experience...

This should be a night of edgy, experimental but danceable, outernational music and image...

We hope to see you all at Amnesia (853 Valencia, between 19th and 20th) this Friday, August 25th starting at 9PM. The cover is only $5 and the night goes until 2 AM...

Peace,

First off - thanks to everyone that made it out to a packed Amnesia for our last Stateless event. It was a great evening - mad props to Kush Arora for his next-step ragga-bhangra set!

We will be celebrating our six-month anniversary on Friday, June 30, again at Amnesia (b/w 19th and 20th on Valencia, in SF's Mission). We will start at 9 PM and go until 2 AM - the cover is only $5. This should be an extra-special event, as we have two amazing headliners, as well as video artists this time.

First, desi space-alien Micropixie (www.micropixie.com) will be playing her ethereal sounds, with live tabla accompaniment and laptop beats. Then, Jeff Stott, MC Rai producer and founder of Embarka Records (www.embarkarecords.com) , will be performing beats and oud, with a violinist and arabic percussion.

Michael (The Worker) and I (Special Agent K) will be dropping opening and closing sets - spinning roots, dub, bhangra, outernational breaks and jungle, afrojazz, dancehall, dubstep and so on...

I'll be doing my usual soundsystem business, with siren unit and analogue delays. I'm also planning on dropping some dubplates of original south asian dubstep and drum and bass.

Finally, we will be incorporating a visual component. This will include a video piece by Sue C , a photographer and video artist (www.orthlorng.com/sue/live.html) who works with a combination of analog and digital processes, doing "live improvisational video performances using a custom built system in the max/msp/jitter software environment"... We will also be joined by a guest visual artist, Yasi, who is a member of the Flaming Lotus Girls (www.flaminglotus.com) and who will be providing some live visual pieces to complement the evening. The visual element should be a nice addition to our developing event.

I'm still developing my dubwise tabla and midi footcontroller setup, so expect to see this as part of my set in the next few months!

So please come out and join us for an intimate evening of bass frequencies, outernational beats, live performance and visual art!

Warmly, Khenu (Special Agent K!)
Step back, all ye wannabe rappers and check out one of
the originals who made hip hop possible. Before Africa
Bambaata was throwing parties in the Bronx, before
Prince Whipper Whip was rocking with the Fantastic 5
and before the Rock Steady Crew ever attempted their
first windmills, Umar Bin Hassan and the Last Poets
were making rhythm and poetry live on the streets of
Harlem.
Thirty years later a number of the more socially and
politically conscious emcees are planning a tribute
album to the Last Poets featuring Common, Dead
Prez, Chuck D, Keith Murray, Buckshot, Kanye West,
Erykah Badu and others.
Since 1999, Brooklyn Producer/DJ Dub Gabriel and Last
Poets’s founder Umar Bin Hassan have collaborated in
many ways.
First with Umar’s now legendary appearance on Dub
Gabriel’s Baraka Orchestra album, Then with Dub
Gabriel and Prof. Shehab releasing Umar’s album
produced by Bill Laswell. Gabriel’s Current album
“Bass Jihad” is a modern Middle Eastern Dub
masterpiece being compared by Billboard magazine to
Brian Eno as well as on the best of 2005 list from
many magazines and radio stations from around the
world.
The night will be a celebration of not only the return
meeting of these two artist, but also it will be the
first time Dub Gabriel is in New York since moving to
Berlin Germany 8 months ago.
This legendary night will feature Dub Gabriel\s
Brooklyn Massive soundsystem doing all live dubbing
and music creating. as well as Trumpet maestro Satish
on the dub trumpet and surprise guest!!
and of course your host and pilot for the evening on
the ones and twos Mr. Francois K.!!
